Here is what The Chief of Police Magazine had to say about “Code 1033-Officer Needs Assistance”

“This color video is ideal for law enforcement agencies where an officer(s) may be involved in a fatal shooting or serious injury while attempting to make an arrest. It is scripted and acted out under ideal conditions and is not intended to do more than pre-train even seasoned officers as to their rights when involved in an incident that could easily change their lives forever. Officers are called to a possible robbery in progress and during this incident there is a fatal shooting.

The video alerts those who watch it (it should be viewed at least once a year by all officers) as the trauma of the use of deadly force, the rights of the officer and how the department should act. All to protect the integrity of the investigation and the needs of the officer. As many officers know, the media and citizens are quick to second guess what the officer did to justify use of deadly force. Each officer viewing this video might be able to recall his/her rights in such an event.

There is also a handbook (sic Law Officer Guide) that can be purchased by local police so that each officer can keep it handy in the future as a reminder to him/herself of his rights when they face a situation in their own area. The video applies to every police officer, all ranks, all departments. We would recommend every police association within a department make such a purchase if they truly want to offer in-service support to their members.

This video will not make the ACLU happy at all. It will give the officer that support at a time in his/her career when the reality of the use of deadly force has been forced on him."
